Program development of TRADOC

The Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) represents a complete system of education and individual training, of the doctrine development and support of collective training for the Armed Forces (AF).

This system, integrated within a single command, has the mission to attain the individual education and training of the Armed Forces personnel, in accordance with the requirements of modern developments, aiming the preparation of the Armed Forces personnel to cope with the complexity of future missions on the national level or in the framework of international commitments.

Another important component of TRADOC’s mission is the development of the Armed Forces doctrine with the aim that, by pursuing, studying and assessing continuously and rigorously new developments in the field of strategy, operations, tactics, science, technology and experience of national and international commitments, to process the whole necessary doctrinal structure for the normal functioning of the AF.

The support of collective training of the AF is another important dimension of the TRADOC mission. Through the collective support, TRADOC aims to make possible the training of the AF units under optimal conditions and as close as possible to the probable scenarios of operations in the future.

Preliminary programme of defence studies

The preliminary programme of defence studies aims the preparation of military personnel to perform the initial functions within the military staffs of different levels. This program focuses on providing basic knowledge on key areas of military management and command. Another important goal of the programme is the selection of military personnel which might further pursue the military career and advanced studies in the field of defence. The preliminary programme of defence studies creates the educational prerequisites for the promotion to rank of “major”, and gives the opportunity to continue advanced studies on defence for those who fulfil the respective obligations. The preliminary programme on defence studies lasts about three months. In this programme attend military personnel with the rank of captain (or lieutenant for the Navy).

The programme of advanced studies in the field of defence aims to prepare military leaders, who should be able to exercise duties with responsibility, administration of headquarters and command in important offices in the Armed Forces. The programme of advanced studies in the field of defence aims to enable selected military personnel to act with competence within staffs and other international structures.

The advanced studies programme in the field of defence focus on basic areas of leadership and command, focusing on areas such as preparation and planning of military operations in the national and international context, preparation, training, leadership and management of structures, staffs and military formations in peacetime, crisis, conflict and war. An important part of the programme is the advanced study of important issues in the field of defence policy, strategy, military operations, tactics, economics, social and behavioural sciences, management, law and history.

The advanced defence studies programme creates educational preconditions for obtaining the rank of “lieutenant colonel” and the Master of Science degree in defence studies for those who fulfil the respective obligations.

The advanced defence studies programme lasts one academic year. The participants of this programme are selected from among those who have successfully completed the preliminary programme of defence studies.

Strategic Studies programme

The Strategic Studies Programme aims the qualification of senior military and civilian personnel to assume leadership responsibilities in military and civilian strategic level. This programme focuses on the areas of security policy, defence policy, international relations, advanced study of international security institutions, planning and strategic management, on the national and international level.

The strategic studies programme lasts three months. In this programme attend military personnel of the rank of colonel or civilians of equivalent ranks from the country’s institutions. The programme is also open to international participation based on interstate agreements.
